President Donald Trump’s Tuesday declaration that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran ignores his demand to open the Strait of Hormuz was galvanizing for many current and former politicians on both sides of the aisle.
These people didn’t come to social media to praise Trump. Instead, their mission was to garner support for using the 25th Amendment against Trump.
The constitutional amendment outlines the procedures executive branch officials can use to certify a president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office” and put the vice president in charge.
Although many politicians called for Trump’s removal in a general sense and others suggested he be impeached for a third time, here are the politicians who have specifically mentioned invoking the 25th Amendment.
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of politicians were Democratic.
If I were in Trump's Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment.

Donald Trump has lost his mind and his threats to wipe out the Iranian people should be taken seriously. He’s out of control and his cabinet and those around him must be loyal to the constitution and invoke the 25th amendment. He must be removed.
— Congressman Robert Garcia (@RepRobertGarcia) April 7, 202625th amendment. Impeachment. I will support any avenue to remove Donald Trump from office. But while Rhode Island’s Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse was sympathetic to removing Trump, he added that, “unfortunately, invoking the 25th is not realistic right now, given his oddball cabinet of sycophants and eccentrics, and Republican ‘spines of foam.’
“We’re going to have to buckle down and win this the old-fashioned way,” he added.
