As the West Asia conflict continues to escalate, US President Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) defended the idea of military strikes on Iran by arguing that many civilians opposed to the government might quietly support such actions if they weakened the ruling regime.

In an interview with Axios, the US President said that he believed a segment of the Iranian population would view external pressure as a path to change. “They are living in fear. They are afraid we are gonna leave in the middle of the war, but we are not going to leave," Trump said, suggesting that sustained involvement would reassure those opposed to the government.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in Iran and ongoing debates in the United States over the potential consequences of military escalation in the region. Trump’s comments reflect a longstanding argument among some policymakers that internal dissent within Iran could align with external efforts to weaken the state.
