Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for the next two weeks after US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire, pulling back from his earlier threats to destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said it accepted a two-week ceasefire, adding that it would negotiate with the US on Friday. “It is emphasised that this does not mean the end of the war," it said in a statement.
In a separate statement, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, “If attacks against Iran are halted, our Powerful Armed Forces will cease their defensive operations."
“For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations," he added.
